Ten holiday outings between Clear Lake and Galveston this season, with dates, costs, and where to park or watch, each checked against 2026 organizer and city listings.

The best things to do from Clear Lake to Galveston this holiday season are the area’s ten holiday traditions, which run from November 14 through New Year’s Eve. Galaxy Lights at Space Center Houston, Holiday in the Gardens at Moody Gardens, Dickens on The Strand, League City’s Holiday in the Park, and the Christmas Boat Lane Parade on Clear Lake lead the list, with five more below. Several are free, and the two busiest dates, the weekend of December 4 and Saturday, December 12, let you stack more than one outing into a single trip.

Simien Properties has helped people buy and sell homes along the Clear Lake corridor since 2009, and these are the traditions we point people toward, whether they’re new to the area or just want a better plan for December. We checked every date, time, and price below against 2026 organizer and city listings on October 27, 2026, and we’ve noted where details are still pending. Outdoor and on-the-water events can change with the weather, so every entry links straight to the organizer.

Where Can You Watch the Christmas Boat Lane Parade on Clear Lake?

The best places to watch the Christmas Boat Lane Parade are the public viewing spots the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce lists, from the Nassau Bay Lagoon, where it starts, to the Kemah Boardwalk, where the boats pass later in the evening. This year marks the parade’s 65th run, with more than 60 decorated power and sailboats traveling from South Shore Harbour Marina and the Nassau Bay Lagoon down the full length of Clear Lake and through the Kemah Channel to Galveston Bay. The Chamber, which produces the parade, says more than 100,000 people traditionally watch from land and from boats anchored on the lake. According to Visit League City, it started more than six decades ago when five friends lit up their boats on a whim, and one of them was the oil well firefighter Red Adair, whose name is still on the top award.

  • When: Saturday, December 12. Fireworks over the Nassau Bay Lagoon at 6 p.m. signal the start, and the boats reach Seabrook and the Kemah Boardwalk around 7:30 p.m.
  • Where to watch: Kemah Boardwalk, both sides of the Kemah/Seabrook Channel, Nassau Bay Lagoon, South Shore Harbour Marina, Clear Lake Shores, and the Davis Road Canal at Constellation Pointe
  • Cost: free from the public viewing spots
  • Good to know: pick your spot by timing. Nassau Bay gets the fireworks and the start at 6 p.m., while the Kemah and Seabrook side sees the full parade later in the evening. Visit League City notes that several local boat charters also offer viewing trips on the water.

The route map and schedule are on the Clear Lake Area Chamber’s Christmas Boat Parade page.

Yes, Kemah Boardwalk’s New Year’s Eve Family Celebration closes out the list on Thursday, December 31, with a kids’ countdown and fireworks. The Boardwalk hadn’t posted the 2026 start time or fireworks time when we checked.

  • When: Thursday, December 31
  • Where: Kemah Boardwalk, Kemah
  • Good to know: if you’d rather stay in, Moody Gardens sells a New Year’s Palooza hotel package with an overnight stay and a fun zone of bounce houses and arcade games.

Watch the Kemah Boardwalk events page for this year’s schedule.

How Should You Plan December’s Two Busiest Dates?

Pick one anchor event per day and fill the rest of the day with the free options nearby.

  • The weekend of December 4 to 6 has more going on than any other stretch of the season. Dickens on The Strand, Holiday in the Park, the first Nutcracker performances, and the first Jingle on the Boardwalk weekend all overlap. A simple plan is Dickens on its free Friday night, then League City on Saturday for the children’s costume parade in the morning and the Grand Night Parade after dark.
  • Saturday, December 12 works as one full day. Spend the morning at Christmas in Old League City, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., then head to the water for the Christmas Boat Lane Parade.

The Bottom Line

You don’t need to drive downtown for a full holiday season, because all ten outings above are in Clear Lake, League City, Kemah, or Galveston, and they start between November 14 and New Year’s Eve. If you only plan around two dates, make them the weekend of December 4 and Saturday, December 12, and if you only pick one night, we’d put the Christmas Boat Lane Parade on the calendar first. Check each organizer’s page the week you go, since weather can change outdoor and on-the-water plans on short notice.
